2.                   $350

Seth Thomas pillar & scroll, 1818-1827.  Mr. Thomas purchased the right to manufacture Eli Terry’s Patent Shelf Clock in 1818, but by 1822 a dispute developed between Terry and Thomas, and by 1827 a lawsuit by Terry convinced Thomas to put a patent acknowledgement on his labels.  This clock does not acknowledge the Terry patent, and so was likely made before 1827.  The 31-inch case has some damaged veneer at the top of the door and a repair around the escutcheon; there is a chip to the half-round top border on the left, and a chip to the tip on the right side of the skirt.  No repairs to the scrolls or feet.  The Seth Thomas-style brass urn finials are on steel posts.  Both glasses appear to be original, the tablet nicely repainted.  The dial board was repainted by The Dial House in 1991; the hands are period.  The 30-hour time-and-strike wood movement runs and strikes without problem; there are old weights, an old pendulum bob, and period dust covers over the pulleys on top.  A dark but readable label inside.  AAC sold a very similar example last January for $400.  $350–$500.
