E. Howard & Co. “Marble Dial No. 27”, ca. 1874. A 35-inch marble-front with light wear to the dial and lettering. The glass is original. The 8-day, time-only movement is signed and numbered ‘27’, as is the weight. It will run for a minute or so after oiling the pivots I could reach, but it will need more attention. I am bothered that the pendulum restart lever at the bottom does not reach the pendulum; there is a screw adjustment at the top that allows you to raise and lower the pendulum, as you would adjust the bob on a more easily accessible clock. The bob is damascened, there is a functional tie-down. No label. The most recent sale of this model was at Schmitt Horan last year for $2000; that one lacked the red numbering and had a faded dial signature. $1500-$2200.
Chuck Currie has explained why the "kick start" lever at the bottom of the case does not reach the pendulum - there should be a screw-on extension rod on the bottom of the pendulum rod that you would attach when you hang the clock. No extension rod with this clock - you'll have to make your own. It is possible that the pendulum is a replacement from another Howard clock.
