80. $50
Jerome & Co. cottage, ca. 1860. A 13-inch
cottage clock with rosewood veneer and gutta percha inserts. The veneer is a bit roughed up but the age patina is very nice. Both glasses are period and the chocolate-colored gutta percha inserts (a tree-derived natural plastic) are intact, with gold leafing
around the edges. The painted dial is original, as are the hands. The 8-day movement was made by Noah Pomeroy; it is running
and striking on a wire gong. Although there is an alarm ring, no alarm mechanism is present, and the separately wound alarm
is not connected. This may not be the original movement. A good label on the back of the door. A beginning or casual
collector? This is a nice clock at that level. $75-$150.
