MO-6. $50
Frankenclock. I don’t like the term, but it is so
appropriate here… An H. Welton & Co. case, 32.5 inches tall that should be housing a weight-driven wooden movement. Instead,
it holds a New Haven Clock Co. 8-day, time-and-strike spring-driven movement, stamped with the NH logo, that lacks a pendulum bob
but will run and strike on the wire gong. Both glasses are modern, the tablet with a sailing ship and an unusual surround, hand-painted. The wooden dial has been redrilled to fit the modern (so-to-speak) movement with the old winding holes filled. The hands are
mostly wrong. The half-columns have been restenciled, the scroll-top is a replacement and one scroll has been poorly repaired,
but does it really matter? Some clocks should be disassembled for parts, or simply trashed. You make the call, but please
take this off my hands. Even my consignor is embarrassed. $50-$100.
