JB-4.              $100

Seth Thomas Clock Co. “Eclipse”, ca. 1885.  A 26-inch walnut case with a dark and slightly grungy finish and nice carvings; this is the wall-equivalent of a city series clock.  The glass is old and the stencil commemorates a naval battle in the Spanish-American war; the dial is clean paper, the hands correct.  The movement is Seth Thomas, 8-days, time-and-strike, with a detached alarm that strikes on a cup bell (untested). The clock strikes the hours and half-hours on a wire gong with a signed cast iron base, and is regulated by the special “Eclipse” pendulum bob; it is running and striking as expected.  There is a label inside that describes how to set the clock.  The case is not an exact match to the one shown in Ly, Seth Thomas Clocks & Movements, Vol. 1, page 331, but that is likely year-to-year variation.  $100-$250.
