MA-28. $50
Seth Thomas lever banjo, ca. 1928. The mahogany case is 38 inches
long including the eagle finial; ST made one case that size, “Banjo No. 1”, but it had brass sidearms; there is no indication of sidearms
on this clock. The Banjo No. 1 contained a pendulum movement; this clock contains a double-wind lever movement that is running
in fits and needs attention; it appears to be a replacement/substitution, as it is mounted on a modern wood block. The movement
does bear the ST logo; I do not see a movement number and could not find the movement in Ly’s book on Seth Thomas clocks, so I do
not know if it is an 8- or 30-day movement. The tablet image of Mt. Vernon was popular, but this does not appear to be an ST
image (note some losses to the reverse painting in the middle). The silvered dial is signed and shows considerable oxidation;
the dial glass is convex. No label on the case. Make of this what you wish; I believe with a little effort it could be
convinced to run. This clock does not appear in Ly’s books on Seth Thomas clocks. $50-$100.
