MO-13. $50
Burr & Crittenden 30-hour time, strike, and alarm shelf
clock, 1831-1837. These two worked in Lexington, MA, the town my town was named after in 1775. Lexington MA may be older,
but Lexington KY is bigger. Jus’ sayin’. This clock is notable for the wooden groaner movement with an alarm, but you
probably first noticed the tablet of the Hermitage (President Andrew Jackson’s home in Tennessee) and the colorful wooden dial. The 35-inch case has repainted and restenciled half-columns, a new splat, new glass puttied in over the dial, and a press-on image
of The Hermitage that itself has some age. The full-length door hinges on the left. The dial is in good condition with
good color and was likely made for this movement, given the position of the three winding arbors. However, this dial board is
probably not original to this case (the pin holes on the support board do not match the pin holes in the dial). The unusual
movement probably does belong to this case, given the unusual cord wrap for the alarm weight (see photo). The hands are likely
old replacements. This clock does not come with weights, but groaner weights can be purchased in Parts (#605). Contact
me if you need an alarm weight. The movement and alarm were not tested, and there is no pendulum rod or bob. Most of the
label is lost, but there is enough left to make a good guess about the makers (and B&C used groaner movements). $50-$250.
