MA-19.           $100

Birge, Mallory & Co. Eight-day brass shelf clock, 1838-1843. A 35.5-inch shelf clock that has undergone considerable restoration.  The small flat trim around the door glasses has been replaced, as have the chimneys on top, the dial glass and mirror are modern, the columns have been repainted, the splat is quite wrong. The bottom door glass is a period replacement, the tablet touched up and a piece missing in the upper left corner.  Inside it’s better.  The wood dial is in very good condition although the pull-up mirror is missing – easy to replace.  However, this dial may not be original to this clock.  The hands are correct.  The huge strap-brass movement with sidearm has a B M & Co. stamp on the upper right and is running and striking on a wire gong, driven by two proper 8-day cast-iron weights.  There is about half of a label left inside, but enough to confirm the makers.  $100-$200.
