Antique American Clocks January 2022
Terry & Andrews iron-front, ca. 1850. This 14-inch enameled iron case bears an Ansonia Clock Co. repoussť nickel dial with the Ansonia name on it, but the movement is marked Terry & Andrews, and so is the label inside. It is likely that this clock was made after T&A joined Anson Phelps to form the Ansonia Clock Co. in 1850. The case retains all the MOP decorations and much of the paint and gilding, and the dial is bright, with the company name in black. There is a push-button to release the bezel; both glasses are old. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is running without issue, striking on a wire gong. These clocks are not uncommon and were popular around 1850. Hortonís sold one in 2017 for $185. $150-$250.
