Antique American Clocks January 2022
Birge, Mallory & Co. miniature triple decker, 1838-1843. A 27-inch weight-driven 30-hour clock. The mahogany veneer is good, the gilding has been gold-painted; the tortoise shell columns look original. The dial glass is original, the mirror original, the tablet repainted in the original format on new glass (the original tablet is shattered but included). The wooden dial board is clean, the hands modern replacements. The brass movement is signed and running, striking on a wire gong. A roughed-up label but mostly complete, a modern pendulum bob and two proper period weights. $750-$1000.
