Antique American Clocks January 2022
243. $250
Chauncey Jerome lever box clock, ca. 1850. An interesting style that may have been made for export
to England; there is only one sale of this model that I can find, at RO Schmitt’s two decades ago for $975. The 11-inch walnut
case has veneer on all four sides with a handle on top; there is ripple molding around the base and a push-button for the bezel. The painted dial and hands are original (as is the handle on top). The signed (Chauncey Jerome, New Haven), 8-day time-only
movement will not run; the lever spring is good. A little attention should fix it. Shreds of a label on the bottom. An unusual model. $250-$500.
