Antique American Clocks January 2022
201. $175
Chauncey Jerome “Octagon Drop”, 1866-1868. A common Octagon Drop with a rare label, listing
him at Austin, Illinois, a near-west suburb of Chicago, where Jerome was the superintendent at the US Clock and Brass Co. for two
years, until his death in 1868. The case is 24 inches long with burled mahogany veneer on the front. Both glasses are
likely original, the dial has been repainted and is peeling again due to lack of a primer; the hands are appropriate. The 8-day,
time-and-strike movement is unsigned and not running; a cleaning is needed at the least. The strike is frozen. There is
a good label inside. $175-$250.
