Wm. Gilbert Clock Co. “Office Drop” calendar, ca. 1881.  Despite the busy appearance, this is a simple calendar with a brass calendar hand advancing around the dial for the day of the month; you set the month and days of the week by rotating the dials behind the front dial using a pencil.  Quite ingenious!  The walnut case has carved trim and burl veneer on the wooden bezel and is one of the most attractive calendar clocks (IMHO).  Both glasses are old, the lower tablet possibly repainted.  The glossy paper-over-metal dial is likely original, as are the underlying dials.  All three hands are correct.  The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is signed and running, and the calendar hand is advancing.  A good black instruction label inside and a model label on the back.  Horton’s sold one in 2018 for $960, and one in 2017 for $1176. Nice.  $800-$1200.
