Antique American Clocks January 2022
170. $250
Waterbury Clock Co. “Study No. 4”, ca. 1900. A 35-inch oak case with an old and slightly grungy
finish. The dial glass is old, the dial has the original silvered finish, now well tarnished. The hands are Waterbury. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is signed and running, striking on a cathedral gong. There is a Waterbury pendulum bob and
two knurled Waterbury weights as shown in the illustration on page 228 of Ly’s Waterbury Clocks & Watches, Vol. 1. There
is a wooden acorn on the end of one chain and something that vaguely resembles a wooden acorn on the end of the other chain. Waterbury made more models of this style of clock than any other maker. Schmitt-Horan sold a No. 4 last spring for $550. $250-$500.
