Antique American Clocks January 2022
164. $100
Seth Thomas two-sided gallery clock, ca. 1900. This two-sided clock is not found in Ly’s books on
Seth Thomas clocks and I can find no examples online; it is likely a special order item. The solid mahogany case is 21 inches
tall and 24 inches wide with two 14-inch dials. There is a ST 86A double-sided, 15-day, time-only movement inside that is clean
and running, but difficult to start when the dials are in place. There is an opening in the bottom of the case to access the
pendulum, but that’s not helpful if the clock is sitting on a shelf. Both glasses are likely original, held in with putty; the
backside glass is cracked. The dials are paper on new galvanized aluminum dial pans; the back dial has some foxing. The
back dial is missing its 9-inch counterweighted minute hand. $100-$1000.
