126.     $450

Forestville Mfg. Co. ripple-front steeple, 1842-1849.  A 20-inch mahogany case with a wide ripple-front and two period and likely original glasses, the tablet a well-preserved American eagle on a blue background.  The contoured dial is original with a J.C. Brown signature and period hands – the minute hand has been repaired.  There is one big apology to this clock – the top portion has been replaced, suggesting that the peak had been badly damaged.  The replacement is well done but can be clearly seen from the sides, and the ripple is not as well done.  The finials have lost their tips.  The signed, 8-day, time-and-strike movement is signed but barely runs, as it is very dirty.  It will need attention.  There is a good label inside.  Ripple-front steeples typically sell around $800.  $450-$600.
