106.    $250

Southern Calendar Clock Co. “Fashion No. 2”, 1877.  An unusual No. 2 Fashion – look at where the side finials are placed.  They are normally placed in line with the center finial at the front of the case; here they are in the middle and there is no evidence of them having been moved, or the cornice replaced.  The 26.5-inch case is veneered in walnut with an old dark finish.  The finials have lost their tips.  Both glasses are likely original, the dials are papered over the original painted zinc dials.  The hands are correct but not original.  The Seth Thomas movement was made for the SCCC, as stamped on the front of the movement.  It is running fine, 8 days, time-and-strike.  The wire gong is not typical, as a heavier mount and cathedral gong would be expected.  The calendar rollers are stained, probably original; the calendar is advancing properly. A label on the door, noting the 1877 date of manufacture (SCCC started business in 1875) and a “DO NOT OIL” label behind the calendar. An intriguing example.  $250-$500.
