92.      $600

Ansonia Clock Co. “Queen Charlotte”, ca 1901.  A 40-inch oak case that has been stripped but lacks much of a finish.  There is still old varnish in the crevices.  The door glass is period, the dial is paper, likely original as it is yellowed, crackled, and stained.  It is signed and bears the Ansonia logo, the hands are correct.  The 8-day, time-only movement is signed and running.  Why is the movement mounted at an angle?  To avoid interference by the winding shaft with the pendulum rod or crutch – note the unusual bending of the crutch.  No label on this clock.  This is a hard clock to find; I can find no sales by AAC or Horton’s in the last decade, but Schmidt’s Antiques sold a similar example last spring for $850.  $600-$850.
