85.      $100

Seth Thomas OG, ca. 1870.  A 25-inch OG with spectacular flame mahogany veneer.  Note that the flame mahogany veneer includes the door frame and outer case band; the sides are in standard mahogany veneer.  I cannot exclude the possibility that the veneer is new, done by an expert craftsman, but it certainly looks good.  The dial glass is old, the mirror modern.  The contoured, painted metal dial has been extensively retouched, the hands are correct.  The 30-hour, time-and-strike movement is unsigned, driven by two 30-hour weights.  The strike cord is detached and so the strike could not be tested, but the time side runs without problem.  The detached alarm was not tested.  A good Thomaston label inside. $100-$200.
