Antique American Clocks January 2022
6. $3000
Ithaca Calendar Clock Co. “No. 12 Kildare”, 1878-1916. This is a relatively early example of this model, with extensively carved trim and checkering. The 32-inch Honduran mahogany case is dark and likely retains its original finish. There are missing pieces of trim on the left lower corner and the back right. The door glass is a later replacement. The paper dials are very old; this clock came with either black or white dials. The hands are correct as is the crystal engraved pendulum. The 8-day time-and-strike movement is signed Welch, made for the ICCC. It includes an alarm that winds at the lower left of the calendar dial; the clock is running, striking on the hours and half-hours, and the calendar is advancing. A very original piece. The most recent sale of a hanging Kildare was at Tom Harris last spring for $3250. $3000-$3600.
UPDATE: A sharp viewer noted that the lower dial has an opening to view the pendulum; this must be a dial taken from another ICCC clock, as the pendulum is external here.
