Antique American Clocks July 2021
263. $100
Forestville MFG. Co. 8-day OG, 1835-1839. A 31-inch OG case with good flame mahogany veneer on the
front and door; just a corner chip or two. The dial glass is original, the lower glass a modern replacement, including the very
nice Fenn-style tablet. The wooden dial board is clean and bright, with the “Forestvill, Manufacturing Co., Bristol, CT, U.S.A.”
printed in the middle (note the common misspelling of Forestville on the dial). The hands are later period replacements. The 8-day, time-and-strike brass movement has a solid escape wheel used in the early OGs; it is signed properly and runs for a bit
before stopping. There is no label. Weights are not included with this clock, but two correct weights can be purchased
(#601 in Parts). Good ol’ OGs, the workhorse clock for over 50 years. $100-$150.
