Antique American Clocks July 2021

Seth Thomas “Parlor Calendar No. 3” ca. 1863. Although the calendar dial says “Southern Calendar
Clock Co.” this is not a SCCC product – the paper dial is a replacement on an ST Parlor No. 3 clock (although the two clock models
are very similar, they differ in the base). The rosewood and mahogany veneer on the 27-inch case is in good shape with just
a few chipped areas on the back edges of the base, top center and right corner, and upper bezel. I suspect some of it has been
re-veneered. Both glasses are old and wavy. Both dial pans are newer replacements, the time dial painted and lacquered,
with some yellowing, and the lower with a paper dial, antiqued. It should be square, not round, and has been taken from another
clock. The three hands are period. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is signed and running, striking on a steel bell. The Mix Brothers calendar movement was used in this early model; the weekday calendar roller is advancing but the day of the month
calendar hand is not. A good black label on the door. When in correct and original condition with good veneer this model
sells between $300 and $400. $150-$250.
