Antique American Clocks July 2021
229. $100
Terry & Andrews round gothic (beehive) alarm, ca. 1849-1850. A 19-inch case veneered in flame
mahogany with some chips and cracks. The dial glass is modern, the cut-glass tablet original. The metal dial is original
with faded lettering, the hands newer replacements. The 8-day time-and-strike lyre movement is signed and running, with two
thick, heavy brass springs. The alarm in the bottom of the case winds separately and is not attached to the movement, but could
be; it strikes on a steel bell, while the clock strikes on a wire gong. The label is dark green and unusual because it lists
the location of these fellows in East Bristol; American Clockmakers & Watchmakers cites one other example with a label that lists
this location. $100-$200.
