228.    $500

E.N. Welch ripple-front beehive, ca. 1860.  A 19-inch case with a rippled front and rosewood veneer on the sides, original dial glass and period frosted lower glass.  The dial has been repainted and antiqued; the 8-day time-and-strike movement is unsigned.  It runs and stops after a while and likely will need service.  Good but dark green label inside. Likely obtained after the failure of JC Brown’s business and sale to Welch in 1850’s.  Schmidt’s Antiques sold one in 2019 for $900, and Schmitt-Horan sold one in April for $1100.  $600-$1200.
