226.    $50

Ansonia Clock Co. steeple alarm, 1850-1854.  This is one of the initial clocks sold by Ansonia after Anson Phelps bought out Terry & Andrews.  Note that the movement is signed “Terry & Andrews, Bristol CT”, but the label says “Ansonia Clock Co.”  The case is 20 inches tall with a glossy finish and good walnut veneer.  Both glasses are likely original, the decalcomania tablet especially nice; check out the men in stove-pipe hats and the horse and carriage.  The painted metal dial is signed Ansonia (although it may be a replacement dial).  The hands are period.  The 30-hour movement is running and striking on the hours on the wire gong; the alarm was not tested.  Note that the alarm mechanism sits in the lower left and strikes on a brass bell.  There is a good label on the backboard.  A nice example.  $75-$150.
