223.    $1200

Birge & Fuller double steeple fusee, 1844-1848.   A 25-inch case veneered in mahogany with a very old and neglected finish; note the very long cone finials.  All three glasses are period and likely original, and the images are well-preserved.  The original painted dial is signed “J. J. Beals & Co. Boston”; Beals was the marketer. The hands are correct and likely original.  The 8-day, time-and-strike double fusee movement is signed “Birge & Fuller, Bristol Conn” and is clean and running, striking on a wire gong.  A very bright label inside.  Everything original and nothing to complain about; give this case a bit of attention and it will look great.   Schmidt’s Antiques sold a nice one this spring for $2200.  $1200-$2200.
