Antique American Clocks July 2021
213. $50
Atkins Clock Co. unknown model, 1859-1879. This model is not shown in Gregory & King. The round-top case is 15.5 inches tall and veneered in burled walnut, quite unusual. Note that the finish is rough on the base
and some veneer is missing there. Both glasses are old but I am doubtful that the upper glass is original, and the lower glass
may also be a replacement; it has been touched up/rebacked. The dial is old paper, the minute hand replaced, and the dial board
gives some appearance of being newer. The backboard gives every indication of being original to the case, and with an original
ACC label. The 8-day, time-and-strike movement is unsigned, running and striking as expected. There is an alarm, untested. This clock is a bit of a mystery, but Atkins made many experimental models. $50-$150.
