206.    $1800

Atkins, Whiting & Co. “Parlor No. 2”, 1850-1855.  An 18.5-inch case veneered in rosewood with not a chip to be found.  The dial glass is original with good gold leafing, probably rebacked; the lower door mirror is a modern replacement.  The door handles are ivory.  The metal dial has been overcoated with varnish and has yellowed; the hands are period and correct.  The round Atkins movement is mounted on a Type III wagon spring with the original chains.  It should run 30 days, time-only, but it needs attention, as it just can’t get going.  There is no label, as is typical.  No. 2 Parlors are uncommon; Horton’s sold one in 2018 for $2175.  No other recent sales that I can find.  $1800-$2500.
