Antique American Clocks July 2021
196. $250
Henry Loomis carved column & splat, 1830-1835. A very rare maker, with only one listing in the
Antique Clocks Price Guide, a pillar & scroll, and one sale on LiveAuctioneers (now #197). The 30-inch case has mahogany
veneer in excellent condition, two carved half-columns, and a carved splat and pineapple finials that I think are period but not necessarily
original. A top right leaf has been broken off and reglued. There are period claw feet in front and turned feet in back. Both glasses are period replacements poorly puttied into place; most of the image is lost on the tablet, but the gold leaf border
is strong. The wooden dial is clean and attractive, the hands appropriate. The 30-hour wooden movement will strike when
the weights are hung but will not run. There is a nice label inside. $250-$1000.
