183.     $500

Chelsea Clock Co. “No. 1 Pendulum”, ca. 1904.  This model was designated “For SCHOOLS, Offices, Public Buildings, Etc.” in the Chelsea catalog of 1911.  It was made in “Hardwood cases of golden oak and light or dark colored quartered oak or cherry”; here we have dark oak in unrestored and even uncleaned condition.  The dial glass is newer, the lower glass old; note the badge with the number 12 at the bottom.  The dial is aluminum with the original numbering and “Board of Education, New York” imprinted.  The hands are original.  The signed 8-day, time-only movement is numbered 10904, dating it to 1900-1904. That seems early for an aluminum dial, but the screw holes match and there are no additional holes that correspond to a dial position. The movement is dirty and unused and will only run for a short while.  The pendulum bob is badly tarnished.  The clock looks like it just came out of the school storage facility after 100 years and needs lots of rejuvenation.  A good clock for you if you like them in unrestored condition.  Horton’s sold a very nice one in 2019 for $700.  $500-$800.
