Antique American Clocks July 2021
173. $75
E.N. Welch & Co. “Star Pointer”, ca. 1900. The interior label says “Welch, Spring &
Co.” which merged with E.N. Welch in 1884. The movement is signed “E.N. Welch Mfg. Co.” and the paper dial is also labeled E.N.
Welch. The label may be a left-over. The oak case is 32 inches long with a pressed wood pattern around the bezel and lower
glass. The 13-inch brass bezel has been repaired at the latch so it will stay closed; the dial glass is a replacement, the lower
glass is not. The gilt lettering is not as shown in the catalog illustration and may be a replacement. The paper dial
is very yellowed and would seem to be original. The hands are improper but acceptable replacements. The signed, 8-day,
time-only movement is running. Shreds of a model label on the back behind plastic. $75-$150.
