Antique American Clocks July 2021
155. $200
New Haven Clock Co. “Arab”, ca. 1889. An attractive and uncommon small cabinet clock from New
Haven, a company that had many cabinet models. The Arab stands 17.5 inches tall in antique oak with a two-part decorated porcelain
dial in a rococo bezel with a flat, beveled glass. The case is trimmed extensively with brass fittings and as best I can tell
only one piece is missing – a small brass finial at the very front of the top. The finish on the case is clean and the brass
is bright. The dial has some hairline cracks and repairs at the winding ports. The hands are replacements. The 15-day
round movement is unsigned and running, striking on the hours and half-hours on a cathedral gong. The hour strike sticks and
won’t stop striking; it may just need an adjustment. There is no label. I’ll tell you what – this is a nice little
clock with a European look. I can find no sales records. $200-$400.
