153.     $250

New Haven Clock Co. “Adige”, ca. 1886.  A rare and unusual clock from New Haven with an open well and an intricately carved walnut case, 22 inches tall.  The finish is newer; the finials on top are incorrect replacements. There also should be a carved panel at the base; oh well.  The dial glass is old, but probably not original; the metal dial has been repainted and blistered by efforts to solder the dial into the bezel.  The 8-day, time and half-hour strike movement is unsigned.  It is running without problem, striking on a cathedral gong and regulated by an ornate New Haven pendulum that I believe was used only on this clock.  This is an attractive clock even with the substitute finials and missing base panel.  Only two sales that I can find, most recently at Cottone’s in 2014 for $700.  $250-$500.
