Antique American Clocks July 2021
147. $100
Atkins Clock Co. “Octagon Drop XX”, 1859-1879. A second example of this model, but this one
with the more common 8-day time-and-strike movement. The 24.5-inch case is veneered in rosewood with ripple trim around the octagon. The finish is old but clear, with plenty of scuffs but no major damage except to the left of the lower door, where a spot of veneer
has peeled off. The dial glass is a modern replacement, the lower glass period although not typical of Atkins clocks. The painted 12-inch dial looks original, as are the hands. This time-and-strike movement is unsigned, and the strike chain needs
repair. The time chain is running well. There is a good label from around 1862 inside. $100-$200.
