Antique American Clocks July 2021
140. $250
Seth Thomas “Column Large”, ca. 1860. The Plymouth Hollow label with the Plymouth Hollow signed movement,
including the eagle imprint below the mainstem tells you this is an early (pre-1865) shelf clock from Seth Thomas. The mahogany
veneer is complete and clean; the columns have likely been repainted, but the gilt capitols and plinths are original. Both tablets
are period and nicely matched, the dial glass is old as well. The metal dial holds the original paint, is signed, and the hands
are period and correct. The 8-day, weight-driven time-and-strike lyre movement is running and striking without issue. Two old 8-day weights and pendulum bob, crank included. This is one of the nicest examples I have seen. $250-$400.
