Antique American Clocks July 2021
137. $150
Atkins & Downs wooden works shelf clock, 1831-1832. As noted on the label, A&D provided
clocks for Mitchell & Atkins, a company that ran from 1831 to 1835. So here, Rollin and Irenus Atkins had a partnership
with themselves. The 32-inch mahogany-veneered case is in good condition with the original bronzed splat and half-columns. The dial glass is original, the tablet replaced and the image is actually a printed image fixed to the glass. It is a bit dark. The wooden dial board is clean, the hands are period. The 30-hour time-and-strike movement is running but the strike is setting but
not striking. There is a good label inside, two old weights, and a modern pendulum bob. $150-$250.
