Antique American Clocks July 2021
136. $200
Seth Thomas wooden works shelf clock, ca. 1840. Not Thomas’ most common case style in this
period, where short drop cases were more common. Thomas continued to make wooden works clocks after most other makers has transitioned
to brass movements. The mahogany-veneered case is 34 inches tall with a dark bronzed splat and two dark bronzed half-columns. Both glasses are original with the original putty, the tablet repainted, although the gilt border is original. The dial
board is wood with period hands; the 30-hour wooden movement is running and striking, regulated by period pendulum bob and two old
weights. There is a very good label behind plastic. A nice example. $225-$300.
