Antique American Clocks July 2021
111. $3200
Silas B. Terry box clock, 1852-1859. This model is attributed to Silas B. Terry, likely
made in the 1850’s by S.B. Terry & Co., or perhaps later while he was working on his own. There are only two sales examples
that I can find, and neither clock had a label. The mahogany case is 11 inches tall and 9.25 inches wide with a clean and unmarred
veneer. The door glass is original with the original reverse painting and very little loss. The dial is wood, clean, and
the hands are correct. The 30-hour, time-only fusee movement is quite unusual. It is running nicely. There is no
label, and the movement is not signed. This example has a different front glass than the other two clocks that have sold and
is in spectacular condition; the most recent sale was at Cottone’s in 2014 for $2600, and it had a badly worn and chipped case. $3200-$5000.
