Ansonia “Queen Jane”, ca. 1901.  The name may refer to Jane Seymour, who was Queen of England for one year, 1536-1537, as wife of King Henry VIII, and succeeded Anne Boleyn after her execution. She died shortly after giving birth to the future King Edward VI.  The 41-inch oak case is dark and crusty with many elaborate turnings and decorations; the door glass is old, the 8-day, time-and-strike movement is running and striking on the hours and half-hours on a cathedral gong. The paper dial has been painted, but not completely.  It shows the Ansonia manufacturer label at the bottom.  There is no label on the case.  Queen Janes are uncommon; there are only three listed in the Antique Clocks Price Guide, with no recent sales. $300-$600.
