Antique American Clocks July 2021
78. $250
Hatch-style banjo, 1840-1870. Another box banjo likely from the North Attleboro group
including George Hatch. The painted zinc dial is not signed, and it looks like the original paint with some chipping. The hands are new and probably should be moon hands, as are more typically seen on these clocks. There is a wooden weight shield
in front of a lead weight, and a metal shield at the bottom. The movement is not signed and is mounted to the backboard with
diagonal corner screws. The pendulum keyhole is circular, and the wooden stick is half-round; the bob is detachable as is typical
for banjos from this area. The 29-inch walnut case has been stripped of its grain painting. The dial glass is old but
the throat and tablet are correctly painted on modern glass. The clock is not running and will need cleaning at a minimum. $250-$400.
