Antique American Clocks July 2021
70. $400
Elisha Manross double steeple fusee, 1843-1853. A case-on-case steeple with a fusee movement. The 23.5-inch case is veneered with mahogany and what I think is matched grain painting on the curved framing and cone finial blocks. The glasses are old and the decalcomania tablets outstanding; I think both have been touched up extensively, or are reproductions. The painted dial is old and clean, with some chipping; the hands are period and appropriate. The strap-brass movement is unsigned;
it should run 8 days with time-and-strike, fusee-regulated. Unfortunately, I can’t persuade it to run for more than a minute
or two. There is a good dark green label inside. These clocks typically sell for $400-$500.
