Antique American Clocks                      July 2021

68.      $250

Brewster Manufacturing Co. miniature Empire, 1852-1854.  BMC is the successor to Brewster & Ingrahams; note that the label has an overpaste on the original manufacturer’s name, likely B&I.  Indeed, the ribbed movement is signed “Brewster & Ingrahams, Bristol CT”.  The adorable little case (20.25 inches tall) is veneered in mahogany with no significant losses; the dial glass is modern, the center glass original with discoloration, and the spectacular lower tablet appears to me to be a replacement on newer glass.  I could be wrong.  The metal dial is an old repaint, the hands period. The signed, spring-driven, time-and-strike movement is running and striking on the wire gong on cue.  A good label inside. These clocks are uncommon; I can find only one in the Antique Clocks Price Guide under B&I, and only three clocks listed for BMC, none of which is this model.  $250-$400.

Can I return my clock if I don’t like it?

Absolutely!  Save your packing and box, you have 30 days from receipt to return it if you are unhappy.  If the clock is not as described, or I missed something important and that is not evident from the pictures, I will refund your shipping costs (both ways) as well.  Find another auction company that does that!
