Antique American Clocks July 2021
58. $400
Ithaca Calendar Clock Co. “No. 9 Shelf Cottage”, 1877-1900.* An uncommon Ithaca in all-original
condition. The 24-inch walnut case is clean and retains the proper finials. The burl on the front indicates it is a later
edition, replacing the earlier hand-cut incising on earlier versions for ease of production (Joel Warren, Ithaca’s Clock Makers). The case was used for the Steeple as well, changing the door and dial board. The zinc dial board is covered with glossy paper
and is in excellent condition; the hands are correct. The 8-day, time and half-hour strike movement was made by Welch for the
ICCC. It is running and striking, regulated by the nickel pendulum bob; the calendar day and date are advancing.
* Joel Warren designates this shelf model as the No. 7, with No. 9 used to indicate the hanging version; Ly has these numbers reversed
(Ly, Calendar Clocks, pg. 141). $400-$700.
