Antique American Clocks January 2021
175. $100
French wood portico, ca. 1880. A 19-inch portico clock in a mahogany case with satinwood inlays
on the crest, top, floor, and base. It sits on a 2.5-inch mahogany base, also with satinwood inlay, and that will hold a square
glass dome (not included). There are ebony twisted barley columns on brass plinths with brass capitals, an ornate gilded dial
surround and a very poor porcelain dial with numerous cracks and chips. Time for a replacement there. The pierced hands
are nice. The pendule de Paris 8-day, time-and-strike movement runs but is out of plumb. The pendulum bob is dull but
fancy. In fact, the entire clock needs a good cleaning and waxing. $100-$200.
