Antique American Clocks January 2021
174. $100
German shelf alarm clock, ca. 1880. A 14-inch tall walnut case with an old finish. A
flat glass in the door over a silvered dial with an alarm ring in the middle that you turn to set. The alarm strikes on two
nickel bells above the movement; an arm on the right side turns the alarm on and off; when it is off the window in the dial shows
‘silent’. The 8-day movement is unsigned; it is running but I did not test the alarm. There are three openings in the
dial, but the center bottom opening does not seem to be used on this clock. I don’t believe I’ve seen a German shelf alarm before. $100-$200.
