Antique American Clocks January 2021
135. $300
Seth Thomas “Parlor Calendar No. 3”, 1878. Perhaps the most common of the parlor calendars,
this model is only 27 inches tall in a walnut veneer and is spring-driven. The veneer on this case is very good but not perfect,
with considerable chipping on the rounded surfaces including the bezels and curved top. The glasses are old and the painted
dials are chipping. The hands are correct. The white instruction label on the back of the door shows that this clock was
completed in late 1878. The signed 8-day, time-and-strike movement is running and striking on a brass bell, and the calendar
is advancing. Horton’s sold one in 2017 for $350. $300-$450.
