Antique American Clocks January 2021
110. $750
Bradley & Hubbard(?) “Organ Grinder”, ca. 1870. An uncommon blinking eye clock standing
17 inches tall. These clocks were not signed by B&H but are generally attributed to that firm. This one has no doubt
been repainted, probably different aspects at different times. It’s hard to tell what, if any is original paint; there is some
wear and some paint splatters on the case. The 30-hour lever movement is signed L Hubbell with a patent date of 1865. It is dirty and needs service and will run only briefly when hooked up to the rocking eyes. The eyes are not original,
but instead are painted thumb tacks (how clever!). The paper dial is old, as are the hands and glass. You can find eight
sales of this novelty on LiveAuctioneers, ranging from $950 to $6500. One sold on eBay last fall for $849.
