Southern Calendar Clock Co. “Fashion No. 4”, ca. 1885.  A 32-inch case (with center finial) that has been cleaned to the limit, as bright as can be.  Note the burl on the left side.  The glass is original, the lettering correct.  Both dial pans are replacements, correctly painted, and the hands are correct; the seconds hand is missing.  I looked for it in the bottom of the case and the secret compartment in back but all I found was Confederate money, so I put it back. This model used the second version of the Seth Thomas No. 85F movement, and it is quite sturdy.  Like all previous models it uses a short-drop pendulum, this one on a wooden stick with a damascened Seth Thomas brass bob.  The seconds hand on the time dial is recessed here with a nickel ring, differing from the No. 3.  The calendar is not advancing and will need attention. It is running and striking without problem.  Fashion No. 4’s are perhaps the most common model and are currently selling for less than $750.  $600-$800.
