Antique American Clocks January 2021
91. $300
Southern Calendar Clock Co. “Fashion No. 2”, ca. 1878. The Fashion No. 2 introduced
the Fashion-style case used in all subsequent models, with minor variations. This 26.5-inch case was veneered in walnut, but
subsequent models were solid walnut. The veneer on this clock is practically perfect and it is likely that at least the curved
pieces have been re-veneered. The two glasses are old, the dials repainted in the proper style, the hands correct. The
8-day time-and-strike movement was made by Seth Thomas for SCCC and is stamped into the front of the movement. It is running
and striking on a cathedral gong, which is unusual because most strike on a brass bell. The weekday roller is advancing but
the date hand is not and will need some attention. Good labels inside and a very nice example of this model. AAC sold
one in somewhat poorer condition last summer for $325. $350-$500.
