Morse & Co. OG, 1850-1855.  An innovative brass movement by T.A. Davies in this OG to regulate the strike mechanism.  You can see “Davies patent lever 1848” stamped into the movement just below the mainstem.  Miles Morse Jr was married to Seth Thomas’s granddaughter and participated in several other period clockmaking businesses.  There are a few other sales examples of this model, but it is not common.  The mahogany-veneered case is very nice, 25.5 inches tall; the tablet appears to be original.  You don’t see a lot of George Washington tablets, too bad about the chipping on top of his head. The wooden dial shows a lot of wear, the hands are replacements.  The movement is 30-hour, with two old weights; it is running and striking nicely.  A very clear and complete label inside.  They say you should never walk by an OG without looking inside. I guess this is why.  $150-$300.
